Poor, Poor, Pitiful Me

Some of you know that I spent last summer away from home - then returned to a non-working computer.  FiL was kind enough to give me his computer since he had a brand new laptop and never used the desktop. It was basically identical to mine. Great.

The thing was full of viruses. Full of them. I did my best, and got it cleaned up pretty nicely. However, there was a major issue with the service packs and automatic updates. I kept ignoring and overriding the problem. Now the problem has become to big. My browser (all of them) decides on its own to continually open new windows (after window, after window...) whenever I click on links. Sometimes it doesn't happen for most of the day, sometimes it starts as soon as I boot up in the morning. The issue has worsened over the past couple weeks.

Keeping up with blogs has become nearly impossible. For each blog I visit I have to close tab after tab of browser openings, then again when I click on the comment link, and again to post a comment. It's taking about 10 minutes per blog. I started commenting on blogs this morning at 10:30 - I've gotten to 3 and it's after 11. :(

All this to say that I am going to have to take a bloggy break. Since I now work from home, using the internet, I have to have a decent computer. I have a friend whose hubby is going to come and do all my back ups and a complete system wipe and restore. He may get to it this weekend, maybe the following. Until then, I just don't have the kind of patience it takes to not drop the computer out of the window ;-)

Hopefully it won't take too long! Try to keep out of trouble while I'm gone!

Sorry to hear about your worries. I know how frustrating this can be. I am having memory issues which I have to get fixed soon, as my pc is moving at the pace of molasses going uphill.

My cousin Tommy is a computer genius, has his own company, based out of Charlotte. Sells refurbished computers and stuff if you want his number.

Oh, Tara! I'm so sorry. I had mine tuned up at Staples in the last month and it is working faster. I'm crossing my fingers that you are up and running soon.

BTW, I'm honored that I'm got one of your bloggy comments today. ; )

I hope it all works out! Too bad you don't live closer--could have given you E's old computer when he upgraded last year.

I had this problem last year. I was working on a slow slow lap top and finally had to break down and buy a new computer. Mu productivity level sky rocketed because I wasn't stuck waiting on my slow computer any more. Good luck!

I sympathise with you because I know how it feels to have those evil viruses screwing up my computer.

Have you tried microsoft security essentials? It's virus protection software that you can download from the microsoft website and it's totally free. I used to have virus issues but ever since I downloaded microsoft security essentials I've had no problems. Seriously, check it out.

Hope it all works out.

Hope the wipe and restore makes everything perfect again! It's amazing how much we rely on technology.

Hi Tara!

We had that virus hit both of our laptops. It's annoying - until you try to download a virus protection program and install it. Then the virus makes your hard drive inaccessible. We ended up installing new drives in both computers.

Fortunately we'd backed up all our data first.

Make sure you backup everything before you try to run an anti-virus scan.

My sympathies with you. Good luck!

Hi Tara. This can be so frustrating. Had it happen last year and managed to download all the software which fixed it. Turns out my McAfee anti virus had expired and I was left right open. Do I ever treasure McAfee now! It is awesome.

Hope you can get back to blogging soon.

I hear you loud and clear. My computer has some bugs of its own. My Daughters boyfriend is a computer guru and is coming by next weekend to take care of it. You know..... some of my bugs came from twitter. I had someone follow me and I don't follow back until I check them out. When I clicked on their link that I thought was a blog.... bam... into a porn site. I hate when that happens.

I am a new follower

It takes you 30 minutes the most to install a new Windows, so you shouldn't worry. Tare, your name reminds me of one of my favorite books ever "Gone with the wind". Scarlett was so inspiring to me, and to be honest she still is.
Million kisses.
